hi there!!!!!!!
i am an engineering student in india, currently nearing the end of my
sixth semester.i am trying for GRE this august...but people have been
telling me that to get scholarship, i wouldnt need a good score as
much but a recommendation from an IIT proffessor or from a scientist
at any national research institute or an alumnus from a US university
now working in india.........
i have done my internship from Ranbaxy's R&D unit and will get
reco's from scientists working there..plus since i am a student of
REC, jalandhar( now deemed and upgraded to NIT <jalandhar and is now
next to only IITs).i was wondering to what extent can a good score
compensate a letter???????

A good score can definitely be an important factor. My husband didn't
have a stellar undergrad GPA, but he aced the GRE and got into grad
school with no problem. So I would not discount the GRE - take it
seriously and get the best score you can.
